February is Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month. In the UK, around 9,000 people are diagnosed with oesophageal cancer each year (Macmillan Cancer Support).

Kidney Cancer Awareness Week is 3 to 7 February. The charity, Kidney Cancer UK, has developed a range of resources to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of the disease.

The Surrey and Sussex Cancer Alliance in conjunction with the Primary Care Nurse Facillitators from NHS Sussex, are pleased to be offering an education day for our patient-facing, supportive and assistive workforce (Cancer Support Workers, Cancer Navigators and Cancer Coordinators) in primary and secondary care, on Tuesday 11 February 2025 .
The day will be a face-to-face event at Holiday Inn, Gatwick Worth, running from 08:30am-4:30pm.
Highlights of the day include; exploring job roles, myth busting and discussion and problem-solving common challenges faced.
The study day will cover themes such as holistic needs assessments, end of treatment summaries and cancer care reviews and will empower staff to link primary and secondary care roles, hone communication skills and work together collaboratively to improve patient care.

This course gives staff the knowledge and confidence to discuss a wide range of targeted cancer treatments and immunotherapies for solid tumours with patients and colleagues. It focuses on demystifying the scientific concepts that underpin many of the most used treatments including those that target cell communication pathways (e.g. EGFR and HER2-targeted treatments) and immune checkpoint inhibitors.
