This course is ideally pitched for clinical and non-clinical, patient-facing staff, at the following ACCEND levels of practice; supportive, assistive, registrant and enhanced.
This course is free for staff who work in Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Health & Social Care settings in Surrey and Sussex. For staff outside of this catchment, there may be a charge.

Grounded in current research and national best practices, this course provides participants an understanding of the theories that ground communication, with the tools to enhance their ability to engage in meaningful and therapeutic communication. Studies have shown that by improving communication skills reduces consultation time and repeat appointments and conversations- helping to streamline clinical pathways. This not only frees up staff capacity, but also improves patient satisfaction and long-term outcomes.
By undertaking Enhanced Communication Skills Training, participants will explore the psychological impact of illness on patients and their families, identify personal and systemic barriers to communication, and practice applying a range of communication theories in a psychologically safe and supportive environment. The training is experiential, offering opportunities to reflect critically on scenario-based exercises, receive feedback, and embed these behaviours and skills into everyday practice.
